Post Person Cometh

One of the main things I love about being a collector is hearing the doorbell ring and finding a post person stood outside holding my next intake of plastic crack. Today, mine was some Armada Seekers Thundercracker, and Sam’s Club Starscream. I have a massive soft spot for this line as this is where things really kicked off for me. Watching the show on Fox Kids and also playing the game that accompanied the series (which blew my mind by the way plus everyone loves the tidal wave level. Wow, that took me so long to complete).
The toys really speak to me as I love the sound of heavy ratchets clicking clacking about and these guys just sing to me. Back in their day they were classified as a standard sized toys. But they are massive compared to today’s standards and you could quite easily knock a home invader out with them. I’ve not actually watched the series for some years, and I doubt I would ever go back to it, because then it will just ruin the illusion that it was good.
Starscream was my 1st seeker to be picked up from the line, and that was way back when the toys 1st hit down in the shops here in the uk. A friend bought it for me for Christmas and I was occupied for a few hours (mostly because the thing was wired in to the packaging, and you had to untwist the ties before you could free your toy). The Starscream featured in the pictures bellow is my original from way back when. Sadly his wings have gone missing and been replaced with a pair of Sam’s club wings, also, the dreaded missiles have pinged off somewhere - more than likely behind some furniture. My next Armada seeker pick was at an Auto Assembly 2014. I found him floating about in the loose figure bins (those bins have to be my favourite part of conventioning. I can dig through them for hours finding random impulse buys). His head sculpt is a lot different from the other seekers, more cone-head like than your average box-head. He also has a face plate instead of a mouth. All of this is totally not seen on Skywarp, but it really stands him out from the rest of the repaints.
Then Thundercracker, which is a straight up repaint of Starcream. Nothing new, nothing special… just blue. Although Thundercracker didn't appear in the original Armada cartoon, at some point Starscream powered-up and became his trademark blue. Screamy didn't care for this much as he looked too much like Thunderpants. I bought him without the Minicon which doesn’t bother me that much, because it’s just another repaint of swindle, a little sports car.
Finally, Sam’s club Starscream. This does nothing for me, he has this really weird blue face and a kind of Admiral paint job going on. This guy was originally sold in a 2 pack as an exclusive by (you guessed it) Sam’s Club, which is some sort of super exclusive Walmart in America.
These 2 guys are both missing a few things, but for the price I paid for them I’m not quibbling!
Now on to tracking down a Ramjet, the straight up repaint of Skywarp so I can finally feel happy that I own all the Armada seekers.
Being a seeker completist is a tough life!
