Totally late Fembot Friday.

This week's pick comes in the form of one of the original g1 ladies Nightbird.

Her 1st and only episode was in "Enter the Nightbird. She was a human created drone ,crime fighting, non transforming, ninja. Who was brainwashed/ reprogrammed by Megatron to fight for the Decepticon cores . With a newly implanted brain chip he ordered her to break in to the ark and steal the Autobots "world energy chip". This chip contained all the locations of the world's energy stores, which of course was a must own for Megatron.

I always thought Nightbird would of made an awesome recurring character a bit like Gobots Crasher. Sadly this was not ment to be as she was defeated by the Autobots and sealed away to rust in storage.

Nightbird has had some cameo appearances in the comics ranging from obscured head shots to a most awesome and gruesome story where wheelie and spike blew themselves up to protect the world from a clone army of Nightbirds. The recent Takara legends Nightbird has a packed mini comic that also features her and her fellow fembots Slipstream and Blackarachnia . These mini comics are suppose to be tonge in check humour but have a massive splash of over sexualisation of the characters. She's featured in storylines that range from being cloned for her overly cute face, wears sexy Halloween costumes or just features in the back ground for a bit of t&a. Their is a lot I could say about these mini comics but I might save that for another Friday. But now let's get on to the good stuff toys and this little lady has a few, 1 official and a heap of 3p to tickle your fancy.

Kicking off with Impossible toys with a very static figure that had no transformation just like the original character. The toy had very limited articulation ranging from a GI Joe karate chop or a high kick.( I don't own the toy so I havn't included a picture)

TFcon 2010 got an exclusive remould of their Valkyrie (Arcee) mould. At the time 3rd part was still very much at its infancy but even for the time this was still terrible. The construction and shoddy paint apps really let it down. Its only saving grace is the transformation is nearly spot on to Takara legends. I really feel like at the time this transformation would of been amazing and the look of her would of really fitted in well with the early chug collectors.

If you want a nice Nightbird don't buy this as it crumbles to dust as soon as you touch it. I bought this old girl just because I wanted to witness the pure shoddy manufaction . It didn't let me down as the 1st transformation a wheel fell off followed by the head, foot and front bumper. I wasn't true it prepared with how fragile she is. Box art work looks rather nice though.

I-gear released there shadow assassin which hands down I think is the most beautiful of the non transforming moulds and personally just on looks its up there with Takara Nightbird. She is pretty screen accurate, super streamline as she doesn't have transformation kibble, some rather lush extra detailing and comes packed with a stack of accessories. I don't own this version but please do look it up.

Takara followed the route of impossible toys and ssculpted there lush Arcee in to Nightbird. Making this the now done thing with Arcee moulds. With some extra moulding on the body and a new head they gave us a truly menacing ass kicking fembot. She has one of the most intimidating resting bitch face's I've seen a toy carry. They even chucked us a little bit of light piping in the head as well. She is the epiphany of what I wanted my Nightbird to be.

At some point Kreo kicked at a Nightbird.

Finally to date we have Iron Factory following in the trend of Arcee/ Nightbird moulds. They created their convention exclusive Night Assassin by remoulding there Arcee mould. Like all of the iron factory stuff it's cute and super fun to play with. The mould was original based on IDW's Arcee with a very simple down version of her Alt mode. Iron Factory's style is a little Chibi like but even with this overly cute exterior she has there is still a cold killer underneath.

Nightbird has really been one of the lucky Fembots to have such an array of toys to choose from ranging from all different price points. I'm really hoping Fantoys, Zeta toys or even Toy world take up the challenge of remodding their Master piece renditions of Arcee in to Nightbird. Or even Wei Jang up scaling the Takara mould like they did with Alcee.

I'm pretty sure this is not the last we have seen toy wise of Nightbird. Just like there is always a Nemesis Prime to every Optimus Prime there will be a Nightbird to Arcee.
