Back as a kid I didn't own many Transformers. I think my 1st transforming robot was Go-bots Psycho. All I can remember is opening it up in the back of my parents car and thinking it was the coolest thing EVER. I tried so hard to prise the little people out of the top of his head, but sadly the canopy never gave in so they were trapped in there for eternity.

My 1st actual Transformer I can remember very well, as it was a most terrible experience.
My parents used to travel all over Europe because my Dad was a semi-professional side-car racer. I would get dropped off at my Aunties house for the weekend. Of course, I didn't mind because they let me watched what ever the hell I liked, so sunday morning on the TV was dedicated to re-runs of transformers. I had missed the whole fad as I was born a little to late, but would get the VHS tapes bulk bought for me because they where in the bargain bin. I pretty much just baked cakes, and watched transforming robots the whole time I was at their house. My aunties were my TF enablers as my Mum wasn't keen on her little girl playing with boys toys!

I had started early as a Starscream fan-girl, so one Christmas (not a clue what year it was) I had asked Santa for him. I had begged and begged for Transformers and in my mind I was hoping for that one character.

Christmas morning came around and I opened the my present, and I swear I can remember this so clearly… “This isn’t Starscream?” That’s right… I had been fobbed off with a Gunrunner. At one point I even asked a relative if this was ACTUALLY a Transformer!?. But of course they confirmed that it did say on the box: “Transformers”. Really, the thing is terrible and I still harbour some pretty bitter feelings towards this guy. The robot just turns in to a engine for the car he hinds inside, and occasionally he can take a leisurely fly on his gun plane thing.

That Christmas I also got a Kup (I actually have no recollection of him in my childhood. I just know he was there, I got him that Christmas, and he got a lot more attention than Gunrunner).

He’s actually not a bad toy, I kinda like the fact he looks like he’s wearing old man pants being held up by a massive belt. You know the kind, where they wear them up way too high underneath there old man nipples.

One of the toys I remember so so well is Misfire; mainly because he was actually called Starscream for most of my childhood. Yes I know he quite clearly isn’t, but after the trauma of that Christmas I had to make do. My best friend hated this guy because he was pink and “only girls should own pink transformers” also, he was a Deception and they're the bad guys. I was always tasked with playing as the bad guys, which could be why I gravitate to buying Deceptions in my adulthood and never any stinky Autobots.

My Misfire has been through a lot; he’s traveled a sea of rust (a sand pit, I think he may have got buried there as well). Dived in to the sea and fought Sharkticons (A muddy pond with gold fish in). With all the marvellous adventures this guy has been on he’s not in too much of a mess, but he has lost a leg booster and most of his screws are rusted as hell. Also, the top part of Aimless’s body went missing for quite a while, and has only magically reappeared recently. (For those that don't know Aimless is Misfire’s gun, that turns into a tiny robot. Known as a TargetMaster). Not too long ago I fashioned him up with some Reprolables, because he was looking rather sad.

Joining Starscream *Misfire* on his many adventures was Weirdwolf. These guys brawled the massive armies of Autobots. Sadly Yellow-Wolf (as I like to call him) was normally the 1st to be defeated because he would throw himself in front of Starscream in an act of honour. I really don't understand how he got such a good stat on his intelligence, he was always backwards as hell. Yellow Wolf’s body was lost in the sands of time and may have been stolen by another kid, but luckily his head and gun remain. My friend Roger has kindly got Monzo (WeirdWolf’s head) a new body. I’ve dropped a link to his blog at the bottom so please check it out, he's a cool guy!

At some point I will post a gallery up of the rest of my childhood Transformers but this has been a little insight in to my fave few.

Thanks to my best mate Chris for giving his collection to me, it brought back quite a few memories of when we were kids.
FYI the above images are of the reissue Starscream. Thats right I got my childhood wish many many years later.
Thanks for reading.

As mentioned my good friend Rogers Blog please check it out and give it a read. http://madrandomcollectorguy.blogspot.co.uk
